Gluten-Free Restaurants in Austin, Texas

Gluten-Free Eats in the ATX Hi everyone!  I made a list of our favorite gluten-free restaurants in Austin, Texas.  It’s really nice to live in a city with so many options! I’m super sensitive to cross-contamination so gluten friendly or gluten free-ish places didn’t really work for me.  But lately I’ve been impressed with how knowledgeable chefs and staff are and how easy it is to safely eat out.  And so many 100% gluten-free kitchens are popping up. Sometimes we’ve had to sit down with a manager and talk to them about food preparation and potential cross-contamination.  We had a great experience at many different restaurants around town that aren’t necessarily thought of as gluten-free restaurants. Whereas we probably ate at PF Chang’s in The...

Gluten-Free BBQ in Austin, Texas

Gluten-Free BBQ in the ATX Hi everyone!  I made a list of our favorite gluten-free BBQ spots in Austin, Texas.  It’s really nice to live in a city with so many options! I’m super sensitive to cross-contamination so gluten friendly or gluten free-ish places didn’t really work for me.  But lately I’ve been impressed with how knowledgeable chefs and staff are and how easy it is to safely eat out.   BBQ and most sides are usually great options for gluten-free eats.  As long as the bread comes from a bag and is kept separate, it should not be a source of cross-contamination.   Also desserts are probably off limits.  And some sides or sauces might be made with beer or soy sauce.  So always...

Gluten-Free Mexican Restaurants in Austin, Texas

Gluten-Free Eats in the ATX Hi everyone!  I made a list of our favorite gluten-free Mexican restaurants in Austin, Texas.  It’s really nice to live in a city with so many gluten-free options! I’m super sensitive to cross-contamination so gluten friendly or gluten free-ish places didn’t really work for me.  I usually try to avoid Mexican restaurants where they make tons of flour tortillas in house like Chuy’s and Pappasitos. Lately I’ve been impressed with how knowledgeable chefs and staff are and how easy it is to safely eat out.  And so many 100% gluten-free kitchens are popping up these days like one of our absolute favorites, ATX Cocina. Every restaurant is unique even if it is part of a chain well known for gluten-free...

Gluten-Free Food & Fun This Year in the ATX | 2018 Recap

This has been a pretty fun year for us.  There were some nice surprises, good food, and lots of fun things to do in the ATX!  So these are some of the highlights from 2018. Celebrating our 7th Wedding Anniversary We started off the year celebrating our 7th anniversary at ATX Cocina this year.  We love this place!  It’s a 100% gluten-free kitchen and elevated modern Mexican food.  They have the best corn tortillas made from Mexican heirloom corn.  The service and the food are exceptional.   We usually order the salsa sampler (all the salsas are so good but that smoky bean dip is to die for), barbacoa beef short-rib (to share), brussels sprouts with green mole and verde chorizo, and the smashed papas braves...

Gluten-Free at the Austin Trail of Lights 2018 #AFBAHH #atxlights

The Austin Trail of Lights  I’ve always loved the Austin Trail of Lights, but this year was extra special.  I’m a member of the Austin Food Blogger Alliance and we enjoyed our December happy hour hosted by the Austin Trail of Lights.  They were so wonderful to us!  And it was super fun to hang out with the nicest people and fellow food bloggers. I have to say I was blown away by how much bigger the Trail of Lights event is now.  There is so much more to do. When Brett and I went on one of our first dates back in 2007 (when Austin was way less crowded), we basically just took a nice stroll around the trail and that was it.  And we’ve gone...

Gluten-Free at The Hot Luck Festival 2018

Whole Enchilada Passes To Hot Luck Festival Woot! Woot!  I didn’t make it to the first Hot Luck Food & Music Festival last year, but boy did I luck out this year.  Tillamook cheese held a contest on twitter for two Whole Enchilada passes and I actually won them!  So exciting.   That’s a value of $1100 and access to almost all the food and music events! So the Hot Luck Fest is put on by Aaron Franklin, James Moody, and Mike Thelin over Memorial Day Weekend here in Austin.   There are several food and music venues around town with over 60 chefs and 6000 lbs of meat!  And thanks to Tillamook, Brett and I got to experience a lot of it. Of course,...
