Who doesn’t love a platter full of good eats, especially on game day or when friends come over!  We love comfort foods but I’m always on the look out for the healthiest options that also fit within my dietary restrictions.

So that means everything we eat needs to be gluten free and casein free, while preferably antibiotic free, organic and non-GMO.  We want to feed our gut bacteria good stuff to keep us healthy and happy.  So on game day, I like to put out a platter of healthy gluten free snacks for us to munch on while the Longhorns play.

Usually that means raw organic veggies and hummus, berries and nuts, Applegate pepperoni and salami (we usually eat this first because it isn’t supposed to sit out for a long time), non-dairy cheese, Greek olives and peperoncinis from Jeff’s Naturals, and popcorn.  Sometimes we make our own non-GMO popcorn on the stove top, but I also really love the SkinnyPop brand!

SkinnyPop Popcorn is an awesome gluten free snack made with clean ingredients as well as avoiding all the major allergens.  Clean and simple.  No cooking needed!  And it is great snack to take with you on the go or pack into school lunches.  So what are your favorite healthy gluten free snacks?

Hi! I’m Deana. This food blog is all about cooking wholesome real food and developing gluten free recipes for some of our favorite comfort foods. I also create weekly menus to save time and money while reducing stress and food waste. I had to start eating gluten-free in 2010 and dairy/casein-free (except for the occasional Parmesan or goat cheese) in 2014. I’m kind of a science nerd, too. In the ’90s, I earned an undergrad degree in biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. Hook ’em! Then followed up with a PhD in biochemistry and a law degree from the University of Houston. I recently earned a certificate in genomics/sequence analysis from Johns Hopkins University, where I also took a very cool food microbiology course.
